It’s Ok to Ask for a Review!

There is (nearly) always one step I take before going to a new place. Whether it is a retail store, restaurant, or B2B store, I grab my phone and check out ONE thing. An online review!

Why is a Review Important?

I want to know what to expect when I walk in the doors. Will I be greeted? Is my child allowed? How is the food? Do they have the product I need – and if not – how do staff react.

I’m not a big fan of surprises. My life is pretty planned out. So this crazy process might not even come to some people’s minds.

But if you own or manage a business – it should be a priority for you.

I know, everything is a priority when running a business. But most of us are always wanting new customers and this might be why you are (or are not) getting them.

Online reviews are different than testimonials, too. Testimonials are quotes a business posts themselves on behalf of a happy customer. But reviews are a little more unpolished and posted directly by the customer. Sites like Facebook, Google, and Yelp are often the big hitters for reviews.

The Ask

It CAN be easy to get a good online review. Here are a few simple ideas you can use:

Beyond Social Marketing Sioux Falls Online Review
  1. Each time someone checks out, have the staff member let them know that you’d love for them to post about their experience.
  2. If you have customized receipts, add a note about it on there.
  3. If you send emails, put a link to a few of your review platforms.
  4. Print out labels or cut small sheets of paper with the ask.

These are all cost effective ways to get great exposure – and free marketing – for your business! Not everyone will participate, but even just one new online review a week (or month depending on your volume) will be great. And if it’s an extra awesome review, maybe ask them to come back to do a testimonial.

In my post next month, I’ll share a few tips on how to respond to the dreaded negative review!
